The Problem
Many established jewellers have exceptional products, craftsmanship and industry experience but face challenges when expanding online or reaching international customers.
Building an independent e-commerce operation involves more than an online shopfront. Product catalogue management, payments, partner coordination and day-to-day selling processes all need to work together.
A1J Marketplace explores how a shared digital platform can help jewellery businesses participate in online commerce.

A1 Jewellers is an established, family-owned jewellery business based in Manchester, UK, specialising in 22ct gold jewellery.
Its retail experience, jewellery expertise and established e-commerce operations provide a foundation for the marketplace initiative.
A1J International is the Pakistan-registered sister company of A1 Jewellers' UK business.
It supports technology development, business partnerships and international growth initiatives, working to connect jewellery businesses with digital commerce opportunities.
Our objective is to build a scalable platform that supports the needs of independent jewellery businesses while providing customers with a reliable online purchasing experience.
A1J Marketplace – Our Innovation Journey
From concept to real-world testing, each stage informs the next phase of development.
Development of the marketplace infrastructure to enable multiple jewellery businesses to sell through a shared online platform.
In January 2025, we initiated a six-month pilot project with an established UK jewellery business to evaluate the practical operation of our multi-vendor jewellery marketplace.
The pilot provided an opportunity to test partner onboarding, jewellery product listings and the operational requirements of bringing independent jewellers onto a shared digital platform.
We reviewed lessons from partner onboarding, product catalogue management and marketplace operations to inform further development.
The experience helped us identify areas for improvement and provided valuable insights to guide the next stage of development.
Following the initial pilot, we have continued to develop A1J Marketplace, focusing on improving marketplace functionality, payment infrastructure, partner management and the overall selling experience.
Work continues on the marketplace infrastructure, partner onboarding processes, payments and international expansion strategy.
As development continues, we are working towards expanding marketplace participation and exploring partnerships with jewellery retailers, manufacturers and gemstone businesses.
The next phase focuses on recruiting suitable jewellery businesses, developing international partnerships and exploring opportunities in the wider gems and jewellery industry.
